I've got a Windows MCE PC, but it didn't come with the IR remote setup. I've also just ordered the Logitech Harmony 880 universal remote, and naturally I would like to control MCE functions from the 880.

First, any suggestions for purchasing a USB IR receiver for my PC? After looking around, it seems about the best I can do is to purchase the Microsoft Media Center remote v1 and just not use the remote itself (just use the USB receiver and pair of blasters). Looks like a pretty good price at PCalchemy ($36)

or could get one on ebay for $30 or less

Has anyone used the Harmony 880 to control their HTPC running Windows MCE? Any comments/suggestions?

Thanks.

USB-UIRT is a good unit and aloows transmition of IR through the blaster or through hard wired emmiter port. I don't know about the one you mentioned but alot of them only have blasters.

USB-UIRT won't work with MCE. You must have a Microsoft IR receiver.

If you are willing to use a serial port instead of usb you could probably get the job done with WinLIRC:

Yep, I am using the Harmony 659 to control my MCE PC. Works really well.
