Savant vs. Crestron: Inside the Legal DocumentsBy Julie Jacobson
Savant says Crestron has "continued its anti-competitive, unfair and deceptive conduct" while Crestron claims its residential sales are down 32% in the past 6 months. On the eve of CEDIA Expo 2010, Savant Systems LLC filed a lawsuit against Crestron, alleging antitrust violations in the home automation market – namely, that market leader Crestron engages in “a pattern of anticompetitive, unfair and deceptive practices designed to thwart competition from Savant and others on the merits, to prevent and/or disincentivize dealers from carrying Savant products, to deprive end user customers of a choice between Savant and Crestron products, and to exclude Savant from The Market.”
On May 19, Crestron’s motion to dismiss the case was denied by Judge Edward F. Harrington of the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts. The case now moves into the discovery phase.
Savant Adds More ClaimsBut first, Savant added new claims against Crestron after its original filing to support that its previous lawsuit "has not deterred Crestron at all in regard to its anti-competitive, unfair and deceptive conduct in the market."
