Top 10 Blu-ray Releases of the Week
By Arlen Schweiger
Good horror flicks and quality TV series highlight this week's releases.

If September’s any indication, there’s plenty of good fall movie and TV viewing for you to do in your spare time. The question is, where to start? Last week’s high-def Blu-ray releases were stellar, and this week is no slouch, either.

You’ve got one of the most decorated Oscar winners of all time in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, the individual releases of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, scary pre-Halloween releases like Seven and The Amityville Horror, several cool TV shows, and even a 3D release (Monster House).

Thirty to forty years removed, it could be argued that the 1970s were the best decade for movies and music. Just look at the films that didn’t win Academy Awards (ok we know, we know, the Oscars don’t always get it right). And smack in the middle of the decade is Cuckoo’s Nest, which earned its place in the very elite Oscar history of sweeping Picture, Director, Actor and Actress, at the time only the second to do so after It Happened One Night. Any Jack Nicholson fan already knows his big scenes by heart, but it’s always worth a repeat viewing.

Here are our Top Blu-ray Releases of the Week.

The Big Bang Theory: Complete Third Season
Worlds collide in Season 3! A love affair with Penny has opened a big, wide, wonderful world of romance for Leonard. But Sheldon likes the world just the way it was, thank you. All of which makes for a zany comic triangle with brainy, clueless Sheldon and practical, grounded Penny hilariously vying for the role of hypotenuse.

The Amityville Horror
In November 1974, a family of six was brutally murdered. Now, a year later, an unsuspecting young couple and their children move into the house that was the site of the horrific event and is now haunted by a murderous presence. What follows is 28 days of unimaginable terror. With demonic visions of the dead and relentless screams of terror, this is the haunted house story that isn’t just a movie - it’s real.
