A/V Systems Stand Tall in Mountain HomeBy Arlen Schweiger
Surveillance, distributed audio and a rockin' media room add to the stunning design of this Colorado residence. This Vail, Colo., home would have plenty to show off even if it wasn’t decked out with electronics.
There’s the full outdoor Viking kitchen; the intricate woodwork throughout; slabbed marble, and even an LED-backlit slab of onyx for glowing results in one of the bathrooms—all part of what’s gotten architectural magazines interested in this contemporary mountain abode.
But the homeowner is obviously a serious audio/video enthusiast, and someone who knows a well-appointed equipment rack when he sees one. So much so that, according to Brad Ryan of custom electronics firm Elite Electronic Designs, the owner likes including a visit to the dedicated equipment closet to give guests a tour of the back of the four stacked racks.
“All wiring for the low voltage was painstaking color organized as the homeowner likes to show off the rear of the racks,” says Ryan. “The head-end has its own room with separate air conditioning to keep the equipment running cool.”
Yes, this home pretty much runs on all of its fun electronics, including: AMX home automation, Vantage lighting controls, Lutron shade controls, Kaleidescape media servers, AMX distributed audio in 24 zones, SpeakerCraft in-ceiling speakers throughout every room, bathroom and shower, and Axis HD surveillance cameras.
