Top 10 Blu-ray Releases of the WeekBy Arlen Schweiger
'Cloudy' comes at us in 3D, while the Boss and his E Street Band rock London, to highlight this week's new Blu-rays.We’ve had a hankerin’ for some more 3D Blu-ray releases, and Sony Pictures has come through with today’s forecast: Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs in 3D Blu-ray, coming to a store near you and highlighting this week’s releases.
Between the lush animation, the 3D effects, the DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack and the pristine 1080p high-def, Cloudy seems to be a crystal-clear choice for viewing in a dedicated theater room. Of course, there are plenty of amazing animated features on Blu-ray, but not many in 3D ... yet.
For live action this week, it’s tough to top Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band in their typically top form, only you get to rock your theater to them on Blu-ray with the release of London Calling: Live in Hyde Park. The concert is pulled from last summer’s Hard Rock Calling Festival, and delivers 26 show-stopping Springsteen tracks. And if Springsteen doesn’t rock hard enough for you, there’s a deluxe edition of U2’s Rose Bowl concert from the U2360-degrees tour.
Then there’s actual action - namely Matt Damon in Green Zone, where he gets caught up in post-U.S. invasion Iraq during the fallout of the fall of Saddam Hussein. The release coincides with a repackaging of The Bourne Trilogy on Blu-ray, so if you’re a Damon fan you have reason to rejoice.
