Just programmed a T3-V for the first time for my theater. I'm noticing that with only 16-bit color, the gradients used for the backgrounds on the Oasis and other themes don't look very good. There is some serious contouring that shows up on the remote's screen that doesn't show up with 32-bit color on my laptop (in the editor).

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

There is no way around this if you did not create the graphics. However, if you create your own backgrounds in an image editing program, you can save the image as a dithered, adaptive 256 color gif and it will be almost discernable once on the remote. There are other, far more involved techniques to eliminate 'banding' in gradients, but I've never found that they are worth all the effort, especially on smaller screens such as the T3-V.

It shouldn't look TOO bad, really.

I remember back in the mid 90's some photo editing programs actually used to have native 16-bit editing modes (15-bit too?), and could use random dithering when converting from a 24-bit image to hide that sort of banding. But that kind of thing was dropped long ago.

LOL, all your base are belong to us ;)

Cool plugin Dan! Thanks for the link. Although, in their demo image, the results don't look any better than what Photoshop does with 256 colors. I'll try this out.

Well, 65,000 should always look better than even adaptive 256 colors... and don't forget that if the 256 chosen aren't part of the 16-bit palette, you'll still end up with a similar issue.

That would explain the hourglass file that I uploaded....

It looks great in Photoshop but when loaded on a T2-C it has the same results as the OP mentioned!
