I am waiting for the download.. sloooow internet connection here in the clients guest house. They have the servant quarters throttled down to dial-up speeds.

What is up with the glossy remote trend? They ALWAYS look filthy. HP lost a laptop sale a couple months ago because i couldnt bring myself to buying a high gloss laptop. I knew it would look awful all the time so i got something else. I thought i was safe with Dell when i ordered a laptop for my sister and it showed up glossy. Who decided it was OK for everything to look finger printy?

Great video! I liked seeing RTI's PC interface. That might keep them in business. URC's in-wall keypad is really slick. Pronto and their ability to be used as AMX and Crestron panels is pretty impressive. You could cut the cost of your proposal down significantly and squeeze your way into lower budget projects.

Thanks 39C.... I hope on dial-up speeds you just went for the regular version. :-)

I'm also hoping that the new HD-oriented Flash 10.1 currently in beta will make online 1080p a more realistic option (currently it plays like a dog in Flash, but is great using a "real" player).

Yeah, I'm quite impressed by the new encoder I'm using. The new "regular" file is about 18% to 28% smaller versus the old "large" file, and yet I think it looks much better. Although I'm really at the limit of how small I can go there, while keeping the quality level up (I looked into releasing an actual low quality version, but the actual size savings really didn't make it worth it).

The new 720p files are phenominal for the size, especially compared to before, and I could probably even squeeze a bit more off of them. But I didn't, as I wanted them to be more of a "high quality" option versus "barely acceptable definition".

I have been looking at 1440x816 encodes, which would maintain the camera's original horizontal resolution and not stress Flash playback too much, in which case I might knock a quality point or two off of the 720p encodes.

I'd even love to go anamorphic - 1440x1080 which maintains everything from the camera - but Flash doesn't correctly support anamorphic MP4s.

So does anyone care about 1080p yet?

One of the reasons I never put videos up at that resolution is that they always played poorly in Flash in Internet Explorer (on multiple PCs, so it wasn't something specific to one PC). It's always been fine in Firefox/Chrome though, assuming the PC was capable enough for 1080p in the first place, but if I couldn't ensure quality on all platforms I didn't want to bother.

However I finally looked into it the other night and discovered that if I used a different Flash player for the site all those problems went away (and the previous one was one of the top pay-for players too!)... and now my systems that showed noticable framerate reductions are all silky smooth.

So... does anyone care about 1080p?

Im guessing most of us are able to view 1080P or willing to wait for it to stream. I am in a hotel with slow internet just like i was when i responded to this thread in 2009. Hulu and youtube are painful but i have learned to live with it over the last few weeks. I wouldn't mind waiting for 1080P.
