So i have a 720p camera and i can watch 720p on my ancient pc , but when its uploaded to youtube i can only watch it smoothly in low res , i read that for youtube videos its the processor not the video card that does all the number crunching so that's why i can't see youtube vids in 720p so i tried a pc with admittedly again old but dual core processor and i still can't get smooth 720p from youtube .we are not talking about the connection as mine is fast, it just won't play smoothly even when fully buffered.

so my question is this can your PC play smooth 720p from youtube and if so what processor have you .?

or have i got this completely wrong ?

Make sure you've upgraded to Adobe Flash 10.1 (it just recently came out).

I recently upgraded to 10.1, but then found all Youtube videos went green screen on me. Had to disable display hardware acceleration to get around it.

yep i have 10.1 disabled hardware acceleration but only 360p play smoothly

i know its old and low spec probably will upgrade shortly to a i5-750 4Gb or ram window 7 64 bit edition so that should solve the problem

Well, disabling hardware accelleration will indeed make things run slowly, but if your video card can't handle h264 in the first place I guess you need it disabled.

Flash has always been bad at high res video. Before 10.1, I could barely play 1080p through flash with hardware accelleration, and that's with a quad core 2.93ghz. But I generally had to leave accelleration disabled as it didn't work quite right - in full screen the picture would keep freezing. It's better with 10.1, but honestly still not close to as good as with any standalone media player.

I'm running a couple of nvidia GTS 250's in SLI, but I think I need to use drivers 195 or above to get h264 support - I'm still using 190.62. Hmm . . . dare I try it?

i7-980, LOL, you can't even buy anything faster in single chips. :-)

I know, I waited for almost a year until Apple had this chip in their machines.

I use it primarily for After Effects, Premiere Pro & Final Cut Studio...

It works well for photoshop too!
