Is there anyway to repair or stop the rubber on remotes from breaking down

Nope. Not even not using the remote will stop that!

You may have some success drying the thing in an oven or using a heat lamp. Don't go wild and bake the thing. I'd be leery of going above 120°F.

What remote? Talking about buttons or the back? You can clean the rubber coating off the back on most remotes. You obviously lose the rubber grip but its not sticky anymore.

I don't. The only thing i can think of is plastidip. Holds up pretty well on rims and vehicles but those items don't get touched/gripped often. Might have to experiment with this after i finish moving.

Not the worst rubber to have break down on you.
