Hi i just bought a Panasonic DMC-FZ38 think its called the 35 in U.S.A.
Not really into photography and couldnt justify spending DSLR money but needed something better than my ancient Kodak digital camera.
I will be taking pictures and videos for my DJ website (which is getting enough hits without good pictures) with it but the thing i am so impressed with is the 720p video its awesome for the money i am blown away how good this camera is at video.
one thing i will say is i seem to have found a few people in the same boat as myself that AVCHD lite editing software and having a good enough computer to edit properly is a mine field subject with codecs and glitches etc in abundance. playback direct from the camera is gorgeous , stick it on my old pc and it glitches and lip sync is way out ..
anyone else got a bridge camera? or are you all the DSLR nerds who know everything about cameras ?
But congrat's on the new camera! 720p video is great to have now-a-days, especially when you are doing live events like DJ'ing.
I used to edit my photos/videos mainly on a 3 year old Sony Laptop, which had only 2gigs of ram, centrino duo, and only 256MB video ram. Any sort of video editing from 720p to 1080p was HORRIBLE! I actually stop doing any editing at all since it was so frustrating.
I then went out and bought a iMac, i7 processor, 16gig ram, etc... I am just amazed at what I was missing. Video editing is now a breeze. I render all my stuff at full resolution 1080p (until I get that new Red 2K Camera, LOL) and it is smooth as silk.
If you really see yourself editing Video, especially for commercial purposes like your website, then it is a must to upgrade your processing hardware, I know times are tough and I hate to advise that, but even if your current PC is powerful enough to render edited videos, it will take you much, much longer.
As for just photos, that camera takes very decent photos, I am actually suprised at the lab tests for ISO noise, seems to be a decent sensor in that cam. I wonder about low light noise though!
What really matters is that you go out and start shooting pictures, and most of all have fun!
I've only had a couple of digital cameras (not counting family point-and-shoots), but they've all been in the "prosumer" class. First one was an Epson 850Z 2.1 MP. Yes, Epson. I actually wore the thing out doing timelapse photography of a house being torn down and then cleaned up across the street from me. I took over 6,500 photos in 6 days and by the end the shutter was sticking.
Then I moved to a Fuji 6900Z 3.3MP, and then an Olympus 8080WZ 8MP that lasted me for a long, long time. Most of the remote photos on this site were taken with it.
Finally, a few months ago I decided it was time to move into the DSLR range, and picked up a Canon EOS-5D MkII 21MP. I love this thing. The quality is insane.
well i got the camera out of the box stuck a sd card in it went into my back garden and sat on a garden chair and shot this ..you may be able to watch it in 720p my pc wont run it from youtube but on my plasma this looks very clear apologies for my camera work
I can also tell the O.I.S. feature works very well, I noticed it kick in on your horizontal panning.
Good luck with the Camera, hope to see some cool videos of your DJ'ing when you shoot some!
Hey Daniel, you shoot any video yet with that bad ass 5D MKII yet? If it is as good as the 7D (which they say with the latest firmware update, it is!), I just would love to see some 1080p shot with that 100mm L...
Here's another video with me messing about...JoeyCes i believe that AVCHD lite artificially creates 30fps sound off the camera (picking up the hifi system ), no mixing trickery , no lighting just through the window on a dullish day
