Since we where discussing it in the other thread and since 49% on an extremely popular title is extremely good, I thought I would point it out. [Link: movieweb.com]

not exactly 50% which would mean that roughly for every DVD a BD was sold but it is pretty close to that magic number.

I haven't bought a DVD (except for TV shows such as The Simpsons) since about 3 months after getting my PS3 in December 2006. Once you go HD, you really never want to spend money on anything SD again.

With Avatar's target audience, these sort of numbers make sense, but they're nice to see anyways. The BD really does look stunning.

agree, but it sold 6.7M units combined the first week according to the article (BD+DVD). That is a massive number, which is why it is important, lots of people bought it on DVD and lots on BD. Now, would it fare better then an animated or a chick flick? yes, I don't doubt it. But to look at the market you need to look at these mega blockbusters and not niche movies. Just to put it in perspective, if we use the-numbers.com, unfortunately they have not updated to that week but no movie released to disk this year has sold as many and no movie sold as many the first week last year. To get near that number we need to go to TDK in 2008
