Hi,

I've got an olf piece of hi-fi kit called a Cambridge Azur 640H music server, I've also just picked up another one on Ebay (I like them!). The new one has no remote so I've bought a "learning" remote to try and copy across the signals from the old remote.

[Link: ebay.co.uk]

I know the old remote is working fine, but although the learning remote indicates it's accepted the signal it doesnt actuate the 640H.

Googling around I see comments about these learning devices that some remotes may use codes which aren't compatible.

Just wondered if someone copuld point me in the right direction for trouble shooting and any possible solutions.

Many thanks

I've found cheapo far eastern remotes a little hit 'n' miss. One of these might be a better bet, or alternatively an original is available here - though, as per normal for an original, it's a little pricey.

Thanks for the reply.

Re your link - yes I also found that but when I contacted them that particular model didnt have the codes for the 640H, however they did suggest another of their products (Simple4) so I've ordered that and will give it a go.

As for the Ebay one - always amazes me the price some people try and charge. There's been one on the UK Ebay site for several months now at £38 which keeps getting relisted. Guess they just hope someone will be desparate.

Regards

On the other hand, if you buy yourself a Pronto, you could easily learn all the commands! I'm an A/V installer and I carry a Pronto simply because it will learn just about any command I need to use. It doesn't bother me that the Pronto cost about $60 when I bought it... which was after Philips rebuilt it... which was after a good five years of service somewhere.

There's a saying that in many do-it-yourself realms, there are three factors:
Good
Cheap
Fast
You may pick two. You'll never get all three. And if one of the ones you pick is excessively so, you might not get either of the other two!

That is, the remote you have is chalk cheap. So cheap that working with it probably won't be fast and may never be good.

Raise your budget.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
