I saw this on Facebook, and it does bring up something that most are not thinking about.

"Just Something to think about

A lot of people have brought up the fact that they won't vote for Trump if he's the eventual nominee. I just want to put something in perspective.

Justice Scalia's seat is vacant. Ginsberg is 82 years old, Kennedy is 79, Breyer is 77, and Thomas is 67. Nowadays, the data shows that the average age of a Supreme Court retirement or death occurs after 75.

These are 5 vacancies that will likely come up over the next 4-8 years. The next President will have the power to potentially create a 7-2 Supreme Court skewed in their ideology.

Think about that... 7-2. If the next President appoints 5 young justices, it will guarantee control of the Supreme Court for an entire generation. 7-2 decisions will hold up much more over time than 5-4 decisions which are seemed to be lacking in mandate.

Hillary has made it clear she will use the Supreme Court to go after the 2nd Amendment. She has literally said that the Supreme Court was wrong in its Heller decision stating that the Court should overturn and remove the individual right to keep and bear arms. Period.

Everyone saying that they 'won't' vote for one candidate or the other if they are the GOP nominee, please realize this. If Hillary Clinton wins and gets to make these appointments, you likely will never see another Conservative victory at the Supreme Court level for the rest of your life."

So, you're STILL a Hillary fan?

In nearly every presidential election I've ended up voting for the least bad of 2 really bad choices. These decisions are based on statements or actions taken by the candidates. IE I was a fan of McCain. However due to his age and the stresses of the POTUS job there was a good chance his running mate would end up being president. No way could I in good conscious do something to put that nut job closer to the white house. So I voted for the less bad choice.

This election will be more of the same.

First, I thought president Blackenstein already took every one of your guns away.

Second, I'm sorry you missed Civics in school, but neither Hillary Clinton nor the Supreme Court can "... overturn and remove the individual right to keep and bear arms". It would take another amendment, written, voted on by the States, and ratified to get rid of the 2nd Amendment.

NO ONE IS COMING FOR YOUR GUNS!

How is that working out for the 10th Amendment? It has been ignored by the courts for 50+ years.

And yes, she can come for the guns. It seems these days the laws are not worth the paper they are written on, so I have little faith in the constitution.

That said, if they try and take guns away from the citizens, there will be a revolt like nothing this county has seen in generations so I don't see it happening. But they will continue to scapegoat gun owners and do what they can to make it harder and harder to buy guns or ammo.

We've been hearing that Obama is coming for our guns for the last 7 years. Still hasn't gotten here. He must be doing the slow sneak.

Oh, you're a Tenther?(!)

The Supreme Court hasn't ignored it for 50+ years. They settled it once and for all in US v. Darby Lumber about 75 years ago!

And while I think the court was probably correct in that case, the feds have way overstepped their bounds in many other areas and have gotten away with it. One reason is the concept of forcing compliance or face the loss of funding.

Take what is going on right now with the school lunch program*. Either the school districts do what the feds want or they lose funding. That is not how this country is supposed to work. The framers set it up so state and local jurisdictions would make those decisions, not the feds as it is much easier to vote out a county commissioner or school board member than a congressman or senator.

I wonder why we even bother with the concept of states any more. As the feds create more and more regulations state laws are becoming less and less important.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist who thinks there is some secret club of old white guys pulling the strings. But instead there is an entrenched bureaucracy who will do what ever it needs to stay in power.

* On a side note to this, my local school district does more to feed poor kids than any federal mandate over what is in their lunch. The schools collect food brought in by other students (we just give money so they can buy things they need) and put it in bags for kids to take home at night and over the weekend so they have something to eat when not at school. Not one federal dime goes into this program and yet it somehow does a better job.

And it looks like she'll be replacing Scalia first. Why is it the Republican party seems hell bent on cutting their face off to spite their nose?

I sort of agree. They need to hold the hearings.

But I do have to wonder why the democrats all of a sudden have amnesia and can't remember when the sitting VP advocated for the exact same thing.

Because he and they are in the same party, of course!

And that is the problem. Party is before intellectual honesty. :(

I checked your profile and I see you are in Australia. Therefore you probably do not understand the nuance of my statement. I voted for Barack Obama - twice - and I used the term "Blackenstein" as a catch-all term used to describe the way a lot of racist conservatives in the USA view our President (as "An Other", or "Secret Muslim", or "Born in Kenya").

I hope you can understand that my statement was not racist at all.
