My beloved niece pulled the N key off an otherwise OK laptop. My girlfriend continues to use said laptop and depressurizes the little air pocket now you have to press hard.
(I couldnt just clip the key back on because the plastic prongs broke off.
According to local pros, the whole keyboard would now have to be replaced (as opposed to just the button.) which may not be worth it unless I can do it myself.

If I find another old D610, is it really that hard to replace the keyboard, OR is there a Rube Goldberg or a way to rig this...I was thinking about injecting a tiny amount of silicone into the bubble w/ a syringe just to get by for awhile. Any other ideas?

Replacing the keyboard is simple. I have done it quite a few times.

I have a compaq laptop that was/is working fine with the exception of the power connector coming loose and from the circuit board.

I started looking at repair options. Apx $150-250 to get it repaired. I check ebay and find the same model for $150-250. So now i think "i will just buy the one from ebay and swap HDD's". Then i think to myself "do i want to spend this kind of money on a 3 year old laptop?".

I tried taking it apart myself but there comes a point where your worried if you will be able to reassemble it. I had to pretty much take it completely apart to get to the power connector. So i stopped and put it back together and found a $350 laptop. This happened when i was out of town at a job.

The keyboard should be much easier because its on top. You can get them
@ ebay cheap. [Link: cgi.ebay.com].

Wow, that does look like a piece o' cake, and $11? Get out of town. I can't believe, especially in this economy, that the folks answering the phones at the computer shops around here don't tell you how cheap of a repair that is. I didn't ask but they implied that it wouldn't be worth it.

Yikes, even if they would charge like $50 to do it, I might have let them because of URC I have to have this old laptop and had no idea that I could repair it myself with any degree of practicality. I know they wouldn't be making a killing or anything but really, how long would it take, 5 minutes?
