I picked up a 55-250 lens yesterday. WOW what a difference over the 18-55.

Do you guys have a recommendation for a wide angle lens? I am on a project right now where we have 4 racks and i cant get a head on shot because they are in a hallway. I got pretty close with the 18-55 but not quite right.

I saw this one Canon EF 17-40 mm f/4L USM Ultra-Wide Zoom Lens. Is there something better?

Thanks

Damn you... Which version?

I am picking up the 2.8L soon, I can't afford the IS version, so just the 2.8 will do lovely, I have a gig coming up in April at Citi Field.

I was saving up for the 2.8L IS mark II, but that lens will be over $2000 bucks when it comes out.

Daniel, how is the 100mm macro treating you? You using it for product shots yet?

Stamp, I have the 17-40L now, which is my most used lens, but it doesn't offer a whole lot of better coverage than the 18-55, so if you are in the market for a lens about $600 bucks or so, and really need an UWA lens, I would look into the 10-22, which is an amazing lens. My good friend has it for wedding stuff & it rocks!

I will tell you this though, the 17-40 is at least 3x's better in Image Quality than the 18-55, if that matters.

The 55-250IS is a great lens, I am picking it up for my father in-law for his birthday, its pretty versatile.

Any notable shots yet, worth showing?

4.0L IS USM. I was going to go for the 2.8L except when I read about the extra size and weight... decided I'm not going to want to haul that around, and simplified on the 4.0.

I still need to spend money on a proper studio lighting system.

Yup, the extra weight really adds up.

I rented the 4.0L IS & tried the 2.8L at my local store and the weight was comparable, I just figured that when out in feild, the 2.8 would be better on my crop body. When lugging around the body, grip, 3-4 lenses, flash & accessories, whats an extra few ounces? LOL.

Are you looking for studio lighting for portraits or products, like a lightbox or stands/umbrellas?

What are you using for a tripod?

To suit my shooting style, I'm planning on some cold continuous fluorescent lights (kind of mini lightboxes) on a movable overhead track system with pantographs. This is for product shoots, of course.

Tripod right now is... well, a pretty generic tripod.

Still haven't quite worked out what I'm going to do for the shooting table (currently white paper).
