gas is ~1.10/L right now (can fluctuate a lot but that is what I paid last night)
A loaf of plain sliced white bread ~3.00$
A 50" Panasonic 1080 TV is about $1000.00 + tax
Medical treatment (not dental) is "free" but at some clinics there can be some fees for some services.

Seems like it's not a huge disparity in the pricing. I was wrong about the petrol. Last night it was about $1.18 a liter. Bread is available at the same price you quote in supermarkets. I just quoted what i pay from the bakery.

Likewise the TV can be cheaper than quoted as well. $1300 is common and that includes tax.
I guarantee I'll tell you the truth and I guarantee I'll tell you what you need to know but I can't guarantee that I'll be telling you anything you want to hear.

This weekend I heard that they're now renting bunk beds in San Francisco. 1 bed in a 3 stack for $1800/month. Minimum wage is $12.25/hr.

I think some people here have memory loss.... Harry Truman DOUBLED the minimum wage, and country enjoyed prosperity afterwards.

Here is my take on increased minimum wages. At one point in my life, I owned 3 QSR franchises so I had quite a bit of experience with minimum wage workers.

And here is my theory: At every level of compensation there are workers who are overpaid and those who are underpaid. So if I own a business that employees minimum wage workers and I hire workers in a minimum wage and then all of a sudden the government requires me to pay $15 instead of $8 this is what I think is going to happen.

1) I would be a lot pickier on who I hire. I can now get $15/hour workers. So that worker who was busting their ass doing a more labor intensive job for $12 is now part of my potential labor pool. When I owned my QSR franchises, I had a daytime crew of higher paid workers. Six of them could do what 8-9 of the minimum wage crews could do, so my overall labor cost per hour would be similar. And that would happen. The current workers who aren't worth minimum wage would no longer have a job because companies would hire fewer, but better workers.

2) Companies would invest a lot more in technology. We have a chain of convenience stores in my area called Sheetz. The sell food made to order like any other fast food restaurant. But instead of having a worker take the order, they have 4 touchscreens set up and you order your own food. They work really well and are easy to use. Easily eliminates 1-2 workers per shift. And I have seen McDonald's that have automatic fry dispensers that can take the fries from the bags, but them in the baskets and put them in the frier. Easily eliminates a worker.

Just my thoughts on this. Fire away, but remember technology puts a lot of food on the tables of posters here, so be aware of that before you attack it.

Thats because a lot of morons want to live in San Francisco. For $1800 those people could have 2500 sqft and a pool in another city. There $12.25 would stretch a lot further.

The reason SF/Nor Cal is so expensive is because of the climate, culture, and ready availability of good jobs. Yes, if you don't have the skills it isn't the place to live. Even with some of the highest min wages in the country, decent housing is pretty much out of reach unless you're pulling a good six figure income.

Really? I thought it was because obama was black?

See how ridiculously stupid that sounds?

i think you quoted the wrong question. You were looking for "why do most republicans hate Obama". When you ask them what they hate about him they either don't answer or come back with misinformation that they were spoon fed by their favorite radio show host.

I don't have the time to provide a list, but it is certainly not because he is black as I will vote for Carson if he is still in it when my primary comes around.

No one ever seems to have the time.

I think so too. Otherwise his response is nonsensical at best.
