So, how are those gun laws working for everybody over there?

I'm interested to see if anyone who is pro gun is starting to swing the other way yet?

No, we stick to our beliefs no matter how wrong we might be. It's a matter of principle and freedom!

HI Simon, As seen above some gun lovers defy reason. It's like you are threatening to remove their dicks.

I had 5 friends whom were enjoying a nice quiet breakfast at a cafe one morning, when this lunatic came in with two .45's blazing away, and they shot at point blank range (killed) in 2012. The police said it was one of the grizzliest scenes thaey had ever come across since they wer all shot in the head at close range.

Until some of these gun lovers have a loved one shot dead, they are all pretty much resolute about defending the 2nd amendment which was written when we had muzzle loading guns.

I just have to warn you, that you cannot change these red-necks minds.

I was at a sporting event a couple weeks ago. There was a crowd of 30,000 people there. Thats a fair sized crowd of people. Last year in the U.S. 33,000 were shot and killed with many more suicides by guns.

I applaud what Australia has done.

We can immediately put an end to most of our problems by doing these things.

1.Make getting a gun license at least as hard as getting a drivers license. Written and range test. Have them come back every few years to make sure they can still see/haven't lost their minds, aren't members of ISIS etc.

When you hit 75 or 93 and you lose your eye sight or suffer from dementia it's time to take your license away and give your weapons to someone else or turn them over to the state. Grandpas gun cabinet shouldn't be a free for all for everyone to get their hands on unregistered firearms.

2.3 Strikes rule for people who "lose" their guns or have them "stolen". First time you lose or have a gun stolen you get a $500 fine and 5 hours of safety & security training. Second time it's $1500 and 15 hours. Third time you lose your license and all of your guns.

3.Weapons should be registered. The government should know where they are.

People against these common sense gun laws are current or future criminals. That is why they fight against laws that would make the United States a safer place.

From what i have read...They simplified things by making the law the same across the entire country. No loopholes that let felons get firearms in other states. They bought back 3/4 of a million guns from society. They made it illegal to purchase guns online or at garage sales. They actually investigate the person who is applying for the license. You don't get to just buy whatever you want. You can by a hunting rifle if you can prove to them that you are a hunter. You have to continue to renew the license by again meeting the standards. You can lose your license and gun if you dont meet the criteria.

Seems to be working...

The gun laws here go a bit further than that but the general principal is correct. Some specific points for context are:
No fully automatic weapons period, no matter how bad you think you need it for hunting or personal protection.

No Handguns unless you require them for work like police or certain security work or you are an active member of a gun club and compete in a sport requiring a handgun.

Rifles and shotguns are available to farmers and professional hunters, or active members of clubs like field and game.

All guns are registered and there are substantial penalties for being in possession of any unregistered firearm even if you have other registered firearms.

Basically you need a good verifiable reason to own a gun or you just can't buy one. Personal or home protection is not considered a legitimate reason for owning a gun.

Likewise all guns must be stored in locked gun cases or safe's and ammunition must also be locked away and stored in a different location.

Is the deaths axis on that graph per week, month, or year?

Sadly the paranoid and delusional will run the debate as always. Taking guns away from everyone or arming everyone is not going to work. If only we could agree the extreme is not the answer on either side.

The argument that Obama is going to take away all our guns is beyond stupid. The same ignorant argument was used when Clinton was in office. I bought a pistol back then, he did not come to my door. Obama is almost done with his 2nd term, once again no knock on my door.

I am a gun owner, I had to wait 10 days and pass a background. Why is this a bad thing? Why is testing and registering a firearm a bad thing?

If you think the status quo is the answer YOU ARE THE PROBLEM.
When good enough is not good enough.

It's the number of deaths per year up until 2011

I think this would be a good explanation of the differences between Australian laws and American. Clearly they are being explained from the perspective of 2 guys who want everybody to be able to own whatever guns they want and for that process to be as easy as possible.
Regardless of their opinions, Australians overwhelmingly support the gun laws.

To me, a Brit, everything those Americans were against in the video, the red tape, the hassle, the checks etc is everything in basic terms what would have stopped some of the mass school shootings.

I get it, you guys love your guns, and there are too imbedded within your culture to remove them, I get that, but seriously I wonder what it will take before you guys realise you have it wrong.

Those guys in the video I'm sure are honest reliable safe gun owners, they are not the people you need to worry about, they would pass all those tests and scrutiny, it's the others who are not so that you need to catch in the net.

The few will always ruin it for the many, sadly those few are killing too many.

I've gotten numb to the entire thing. The shootings have become just another platform for the extremists on both sides to promote their insanity.

Those against guns say all guns should be taken away. CA is in the process of making licensed concealed arms illegal near schools and some nitwit pointed out that would have prevented the latest massacre (it wouldn't have).

The pro gun nitwit answer was we need more guns at schools.

The media feeds the controversy until the next "event" and nothing changes.

Australia passed laws when the number killed per year was around 600. We kill that many per week.

If a terrorist killed 90 people in the US, congress would be passing laws like crazy to "protect" us. Yet that many people are killed by guns every day and nothing happens.

I feel guilty when a shooting comes on the news. I'd rather change the channel and watch anything else. Until the 2 sides cure themselves of HUA syndrome nothing will change.

"294 mass shootings in the united states this year alone."

I call Bravo Sierra on this one. Show the list. Would like to know the definition of "mass shooting".

I think the problem has more to do with people being whacked out on psycho meds, rather than anything to do with guns.

Also, a few if not all of the mass shootings in the news are either staged or faked.
I came into this game for the action, the excitement. Go anywhere, travel light, get in, get out, wherever there's AV trouble, a man alone.
