Hi, I"m new to remote control world and try to understand them. Can someone help educate me on this? Is there a universal code signal that all Tv manufacture use for a single button? or are they al different. For example. let's say the on/off button (or any single button) has code 123456 and it's universal for all remote controls. doesn't matter if its a Samsung tv, LG or any other brand?
Thanks in advance.

Tyler, unfortunately it doesn't work that way. If that was the case, then you would be able to control Samsung TVs with a LG remote and so on. As I'm sure you know, that doesn't work. In fact, most manufacturers have multiple code sets for their products, so many times you can find IR codes to operate a Sony TV lets say, and those codes won't operate the particular Sony TV you are using. You can usually find the IR or Hex codes to control the specific model number you are working with on the manufacturer's website. If you are using URC remotes, the programming software has a built-in database of IR codes that contains the IR codes to control pretty much anything you come across. Most other brands such as RTI etc have similar databases. If you are really stumped you can even just google "ir codes for (specific manufacturer & model number)" or "hex codes for (specific manufacturer & model number)" If all else fails, remote central is a great place to find what you are looking for. I hope that helps.
