I have to say i really like this programme ..Its a nice spin on Sherlock Holmes set in modern times.. I like it a lot, last nights episode, A Scandal in Belgravia was excellent.

I thought Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock and Martin Freeman as Dr Watson work very well and do bounce off each other effortlessly and i like how Mrs Hudson is their landlady and not a housekeeper with a bit of history herself, Mycroft is played uniquely by Mark Gatiss..i also like his take on the Character and in last nights episode the brotherly link was shown ,the bond and natural brotherly rivalry.

I enjoyed the last series and thought it may go down hill but this first episode of the second series was on the money for me.

I have to mention that i am a fan of the Downey and law film versions. I first got into Sherlock Holmes on the screen with Jeremy Brett's as SH in ITV production from 1984 -94.

so writing this i realise i am a Sherlock Holmes as a whole fan...

The BBC new series is well worth a look so if you can get it in your country why not have a peek?

(djy i think Benedict Cumberbatch would make a awesome Dr Who)

No arguments from me, about the episode or the above, though in regard to the latter I believe that with the release of War Horse, he may be destined for bigger things - as too Martin Freeman with The Hobbit (Benedict Cumberbatch having a significant part in that too). And note that as with Dr Who, both of those films are adaptations of children's books.

PS Much to the chagrin of several Daily Telegraph readers, I also enjoyed the adaptation of Great Expectations. Gillian Anderson played a wonder Miss Havisham - completely mad.

Another solid episode that wasn't afraid to poke fun at itself.

I love this program one scene that was in my opinion drawn out and was a little minority report was the mind palace scene

I liked the ending of this episode and the fact that Moriarty was a hallucination when Sherlock was visualising his fears.

I'm not so sure about last night's episode.

I thought the story wasn't really strong enough: too much padding to make it fill the slot. And the psychotropic drugs angle was way to obvious.

PS
I see BC has also landed a role in the new Star Trek movie.

KHAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

actually no one knows for certain except the film makers and cast who he will be playing and personally i hope it isn't Khan..

As a bit of a Trekkie , I thought the alternative timeline was a good idea so they can have a clean slate so really no need to make a wrath of khan again..as long as they cut down on the lens flares this time and stop making kirk hand off multiple objects like platforms, cliffs , bridges , walk ways every five minutes and have more of karl urban's acting , then i think it will be fine.

Hmm, somehow this series had completely slipped under my radar.

I've finished watching all 6 episodes (plus the bonus)... and I absolutely love it! The only problem is there's only 6 episodes, and they always end the season on a cliffhanger!

They are back for a third series apparently, I think they are very well written and the acting is top draw. The direction is fast and focused. I too love this programme.

I too wish they made than three in a season but quality is the key i suppose.

As far as I'm concerned, these shows are better quality than the vast majority of lower-budget movies, from performances to cinematography.

As you say, very fast paced - which is not always something you'd expect from the BBC. I think I'll need to watch them twice to catch everything.

With a modern setting, I also found it fun to catch all the character similarities between Holmes and Watson, and House and Wilson.

I'm going to have to watch it again (poorly doggies required a bit of a time-out), but for the moment I must confess to being a tad underwhelmed - a view also possibly tainted by my ploughing my way through the first season of Elementary, which I thoroughly enjoyed (still won't convince me to get Sky though).

Elementary turned out WAY better than it had any right to. American "me too" production of a reimagined British staple, set in New York, Watson changed into a female... this just has to be horrible. But no, it's fantastic! You'll enjoy season 2 as well.

I understand Sherlock got some great viewship numbers. But can you explain why UK channels like to "burn up" hot shows so fast? Three 2-hour episodes of Sherlock airing on January 1st, 5th and 12th? And then nothing for who knows how many years?

It's like Britain's Got Talent, where they do the live segments every day for a week and then that's it. Maximum of 3 performances for any particular act (audition, semifinal, final). If you look at the last season of the American version, some acts performed 6 times!

Hot on the heels of the McIntosh product placement in Elementary (could have got some better speakers though), did you spot the Vita Audio R2i in the second episode of Sherlock?

I've actually got an it's bigger brother, an R4i, and use an ipod Touch as below.

Really nice sound, for such a small box. I do, however, find the remote a little quirky, and it uses AAAA batteries - not something one can get from the corner shop.

PS
For those with even bigger ears there's now the R7 - legs detachable, if so required.

For AAAA batteries, you could always broke open a 9 volt battery, you'll find 6 AAAA in it.

Meh, I just have a lowly iHome dock! But then again it's primary purpose is holding and charging my phone - I'm not much of a music listener.
