viewing figures aparently are down from christopher ecclestone days i saw on a mag in asda that torchwood is coming back soon too
I think the figures are based on "live" watching; as Steven Moffat mentioned, in an interview I read, there are numerous other ways of watching that are not recorded - e.g. iPlayer.
The new Torchwood (a follow on, not a reboot, of the old series) is a Starz/BBC co-production. There's a good article about it in SFX.

Matt Smith has signed on to appear in a new series of Doctor Who, the BBC has confirmed.
I grew up (OK teen years) with Dr.who on PBS from the US, when the new series started it was on CBC here, so I was watching it there, and being a big who fan I continue watching it streaming on space (station that carries who and Torchwood here) which looks like crap. But since I never got into Torchwood I won't put myself through the pain of streaming. That being said, the past two weekends I was at my sisters cottage and saw the last two episodes there on TV and they where OK, but I don't have much to compare them to (in California, the doctor got put in the incinerator- don’t know how that compares to the UK).
You know, I haven't even seen the cliffhanger ending of the last half-season. My family got REALLY bored with the goopy flesh people on acid island, and we never even finished the second half of that one... and then I figured I might as well wait until I had both parts of the next 2-parter.

I know what you mean; the story fell between two stools. Too long for a single episode and too short (unnecessary padding added) for two. It does, however, have major significance for the season story arc.
I watched a special preview of one of the Torchwood episodes where Jack picks up the guy in the bar the sex scene was far , far stronger than the final broadcast and i am so glad they toned it down as even though i am far from homophobic i felt it was over the top and didnt add anything to the story. the new torchwood is an interesting show and seems to be dragging plot wise and dragging out to the big reveal but the acting and style is good , the recent set of i think Singapore or some other asian street was straight out of amdram sets with chinese lanterns etc ,was a little poor in my opinion and seemed budget restrictions made that scene look shabby but overall its very watchable and i am eager to see the next episode and thats always a good thing.
