All you are showing there is feedback.

You need to send the serial commands from realtime to see if they are being sent. Don't send with an ir remote. Double click the volume up as an example or an input select in the command section.

I did that, it shows them being sent, but nothing happens, no change, no feedback, nothing.

Ok so you now know that the processor commands are working fine. Next move to checking your cable connections. Do you have a serial end that you can make up with a piece of cat 5?

No, I have a handful of RJ45-DB9 connectors, I have used my toner/tester to tone out each pin and confrim that they are good.

I was half tempted to try just pushing bare wires into the serial jack on the avr.

It sounds like your RX pin is working ok but the TX may not be wired correctly

You mean on the PMC2 processor, right? I tried Com2 and have the same results.

In Realtime, if I go to Theater, AVR, Commands and double click any of the INPUT commades I get this message:

The value of this signal cannot be set.

Some signal changes can come only come from the device and cannot be simulated in real-time mode.

Exactly like that.

On your cable. What I was getting at was that you were receiving feedback which means that your RX portion is presumably wired correctly. That's why I suggested making up a new cable so that you can test using a straight thru connection using pins 2,3,5 without the adaptor that you are using

Okay, so. I downloaded something called DOCKLIGHT. and using my usb-db9 cable, I have full control and am getting the proper feedback.

I also discovered that everytime I changed the com port to #2, it forced it back to 1.

So, I have to remove the AVR, then add a nother serial device, then add back in the AVR to test comm 2, perhaps its the port on the PMC2. I also have another PMC2 that I can plug in and test.

I will go through my wiring again as well to try and figure out. I'm just glad that I forced control of the Denon and it appears to be working correctly.

Why dont you just put the denon on com1. Sounds like youll be in for a hurting if you start removing crap from systembuilder.

I've been testing on Com1, but now wondering if its a bad port.

So I tried a different PMC2, same results.

I'm stumped.

Your best bet is to make a new cable with a piece of CAT5 and a RS-232 end at the receiver. Make a STRAIGHT THRU connection to pins 2,3,5 to the COM port you are using on the back of the PMC2. If everything works after this you will know if your cable is bad that you are using. You say you tried another processor, this leads me to believe that the cable you are using is bad.
