Hi, I am working on a Crestron control project and I must choose the touch screen to use between a Crestron touch screen TSW-XXX and an iPad. is there anything you can do with the TSW (apart from the included camera and the RAVA intercom capability) that you can't with an iPad? I am more concerned about the technical limitations (if any) of the iPad
Please share your experience and knowledge. Thanks
use the X60 panels and you will never have to worry. If integrating Sonos, they have built in Sonos App that updates automatically when new updates are available, and will be a lot less headaches later when the new crestron app becomes available and the current one is no longer compatible with the ipads they have (this is what is happening with crestron mobile and current iPads).
EDIT: This is probably the oldest iPad deployment I've been a part of, so it's Mobile G. The app got updated to v2.00.66.00, I think, from v2.00.60.00, and it generated that message. I had to recompile the VT and re-upload and it's beck up and running.
You'll likely not have that problem with a dedicated panel!

touch panels have there advantages listed above, but iPads work well if done correctly.
If possible have dedicated iPads for control and have a separate iTunes account for control iPads. This way you can have access to do everything without having clients personal info. Also turn off all notifications for everything and sign out of iCloud. Use Launch Port sleeves and base stations for charging. Have iPad for each room so jumping between AP's is not an issue (iPad Mini, launch port sleeve and base station are approximately $700 per room)
Biggest draw backs: have to press home button twice to open (as long as Crestron app is always open), iOS updates, older iPads no longer support new iOS (but new iPads don't cost much more than replacement batteries for touch panels)
I usually use touch panels for in wall use, and iPads for wireless use. I have close to 100 iPads in the field for Crestron control and if done correctly they work well.
