I have a Prodigy system with a PMC3 processor. I do not have the system file. I am wondering if I can use the IR in port on the back of the processor to issue IR commands to the system.

Ideally I would like to use URC. They may have codes in their database to trigger particular join numbers. All I really need to do is be able to activate the main page macros like "Watch TV", "BluRay", etc. I don't need any more than that.

The goal is to use a non-Crestron remote to control the home theater stuff (easy), but also to trigger only the most basic source macros.

Can anyone offer me some help? When I plug an IR cable into the IR in jack on the back of the processor, the power light goes out and the processor seems unresponsive.

Thanks,

To use URC you'd also have to update the firmware and then find an old gateway as the one in the processor won't work with URC.

Have never, ever used the IR in. The IR in is designed for a Crestron IR receiver which has a stereo 3.5mm input. Not sure if other IR receivers would work or not.

I've never used the IR, but he would need to program the system for an IR device

URC has Crestron IR codes in the DB, it can be done.

Yes, with the right gateway, a URC remote will work. He's talking about using an IR receiver to the IR input of the MC3 (what is was designed for)

Have no idea how it works as never tried and probably never will.

URC have IR remotes, You can program an MX-980 to spit IR to crestron.

In SIMPL you drop a Pronto/RC5 remote on the slot.

IN CCP you program your remote to spit IR, there is a Crestron code set. If not look up the Pronto/RC5 codeset and pick the ID you set in SIMPL.

Yeah if you wana use an RF URC you'd need either the CNRFGWA or CNRFGWA-418 and the the newest firmware.

No matter what the guy has to program for all this and that aint happening.

So with an IR receiver on the IR input a URC remote will work, hmm.... Did not know that. Will never do it but hey, learned something!

Works on the old MP2W as well... at least I think that one had an IR in.

There is also an IR receiver cresnet device for all other 2 and 3 series processors.

I had ONE place where I nearly used this and it was for a Mirror TV that we didn't spec.
