What are some preferred remotes for residential that are reliable? My company is 99% commercial, so I don't get to see many residential jobs anymore. I'm putting together a system for my home. I'm familiar with the ML600 and MTX3. I was leaning toward ML600s for the TV rooms, but the LCD screen is very limited on naming sources.

MLX3 if you need 2-way.

TSR-302 if you want bells and whistles.

HR-150 if you just have a few sources

ML-600 if you're going back in time to do this.

I would never install this at my worst enemies house as I wouldn't want to deal with the headaches of returning to replace it. Power button, scroll wheel, or back buttons break on EVERY unit.

I would add the HR100 if you don't need a numeric keypad, but for the price difference I would go with the 150.

Thanks for the replies. I have several URC MX850s and the VTPro files to use them as ML600s. I would use them because I already have them. I thought I recall that even though the ML600s were very basic, that they were pretty reliable. It is nice to have some other options as well though.

Have 30+ in the field without any issues what so ever. The very first batch had problems, since then ultra reliable. I do agree the Power button is in the worst position possible!



I love the 150, fantastic remote and bullet proof.

The problem with using a discontinued remote like the ML600 is it's no longer made. Why would you use something obsolete???

Also have an MLX-3 for my home. I really do love it, but it IS fragile. I never had the scroll wheel issue or the fading screen thing, but ONE drop off the couch onto tile was enough to make the thing feel like it's 10 years old. The battery cover tabs are busted and some of the side clips are as well, so it never fully clicks together now.

Still works like a champ though!

I agree the MLX3 had(s) issues. But it actually is quite a decent remote for two-way control. The MLX3 Gen 1 was all kinds of suck. They did a mid batch rev that fixed the power button and scroll wheel. The New MLX3-SF has a bunch of hardware fixes they learned from the failures of the original.


I don't like the HR100 for resi. No keypad and only 4 custom buttons which isn't enough for all the sources an extra Cable Power button and lights/shades. And we are talking an extra $50 List price difference.
