Hi there -

I'm a longtime tech who has only dabbled in programming over the years. It's nice to see this forum, since it's probably one of the only Crestron forums that's open to the public. Anyway...

I've gone through other programs that people have written, and they always seem to have initialization modules to sort of set up the system on power-up. It's never as basic as you'd think it would be. So my questions are:

- Is there a formal sort of structure that they teach in class for this sort of thing?

- Does Crestron have their own generic startup modules?

And somewhat unrelated...

- I know they have themes in VT-Pro, but do they have generic interfaces that you can work with? Do I need to build an iPad interface from scratch just to try out stuff?

You can buy layouts or dealers have access to themes with layouts but not for the general public.

Startup depends on what the system is. I have many systems that all have different startup procedures based on the gear in the system.

3-series processors have a 'ready' signal you can use to drive your startup sequence on the one of the hardware slots..."programXX_start_f"

A basic program probably doesn't need much initialization, maybe some serial and analog values. All depends on what you're trying to do, but unless you're reading in config files from NVRAM etc, you aren't likely to overload the controller on a 3-series anyway.

On 2-series, I usually used the '*out' on an srlatch to start a stepper to space out the initialization process.

NO. Well yes. Well sorta.

They did kinda, then stopped, then tried again and stopped and are now trying to actually TEACH to a standard.

No such thing. They DO have 2 new frameworks they are working on which are both Live and Beta at the same time.

Each system is different so you need to make your own decisions on how/when to startup things and initialize them

They have some "pre-built" interfaces. Plus their demo programs tend to come with a VTP file for a panel.
