Just wondering what you guys thought about using the Green Light motion sensors in the house. If this is something you typically install so lights turn on by themselves while walking through the house or if you just connect standard alarm system motion detectors to a controller to get the same effect?

I just wasnt sure of how well these would work in bedrooms with ceiling fans blocking the sensors a little and tripping them as motion when the fans are running.

Thank you

Eric

We have used the gls sensors in houses on multiple occasions. Since they provide a delayed off on the falling edge of the motion being detected you don't have to worry about writing logic for the delayed off (like you would for a basic security motion).

We have never put these in bedrooms as there would be a lot of false triggers during the night that would cause the lights to turn on. Also I think there would be too many variables to consider to disable the sensor from being enabled between specific hours.

Yea i was just thinking of putting some led rope lights under the bed to turn on during the night if there is movement so if your walking to the bathroom you dont stub your toe. I will probably just start with the common areas then and look into doing some in the bedrooms if its requested.

Thank you

Got ya, I haven't installed a Crestron Motion sensor in a bedroom, but have installed security motion sensors in bedrooms and have never had issues with them being set off by fans. At the same time they are usually installed lower than the ceiling fan anyways.

We have 54 of the GLS-ODT-C-CN in a recent residential project (one in every room/closet/bathroom/hall/etc). They are fantastic occupancy sensors and we've integrated them with both lighting and security. Very easy to install and program against. As others pointed out, they are problematic in bedrooms and with ceiling fans, although with a bit of effort you can mask off the ceiling fan.

The only complaint we get is with harmonic resonance - where the ultra sonic causes something in the unit to vibrate which causes an extremely audible high pitch squeal. Happens to at least one of them a week and it comes and goes on its own.

Sounds like a fun install :)

We added a couple and they are working great so far.

Thanks again for the advice!
