Hi all, I have a CP3 controlled system and I want to add a remote so I can use my TV without having to change the channels and volume on my iPad. I have a Denon receiver for my speakers/volume. I have 2 questions:

1. My programmer and I had a falling out so to get a remote, other installers said they would have to reprogram the whole system. I don't want to spend the money for a whole new system. Can I somehow use a universal remote to control at least, the channels on my tv ( such as my verizon remote or a logitech)? I have the system files but obviously don't have access to Toolbox as I am not an installer.

2. Currently we only have the controller on one iPad. Is there a way I can get the files onto another iPad in case my current remote (iPad) breaks or the app gets deleted?

So in summary, Can I somehow use a universal remote to control my tv channels (and possibly Denon volume), and if that's not possible, can I dowload my manifest file onto another laptop in case this one fails?

Thanks

1) If you have the system files (uncompiled SIMPL file most importantly: *.smw), it would probably be pretty straightforward to add a HR150 to the Crestron system. Whether or not this would be profitable for someone to do is something you'd have to work out w/ each integrator.

2) If you go to the Crestron app setup pages you can copy the connection data to other iPads (they'll all mirror each other unless the programmer set up multiple instances, which would each use a different value in the Port A slot (in the older app) or a different IP ID (new app). This is assuming the project is stored on the CP3 and not loaded locally to the iPad.

Any universal remote will work fine, including Verizon or Logitech or a $10 one from the grocery store.

Really?? Please explain how he can add a Harmony to his Crestron system.

to the OP, you can use a RTI or a URC but the HR-150 or HR-100 are great remotes. If you don't have the original SIMPL file, you will have to start from scratch.

I always include a compiled version with my uploads so the original file is stored on the processor. Download Filezilla and ftp into the CP3, look in the program slots for a .zip file.

He asked, "Can I somehow use a universal remote to control at least, the channels on my tv ( such as my verizon remote or a logitech)?"

The answer is yes. Any universal will control a TV and a Denon receiver. Obviously it will not interface with Crestron in any way. I never said that it would.

If you are offering your services to him for free, that's between you and him. I'm just trying to give him control of his TV and AVR back in the interim.

You're correct IF the gear is visible and not in the rack but it's like putting a band-aid on. I love it when I see AVRs and cable boxes with multiple IR bugs on each.

If he'd like my help I'd be happy to. (As long as the file is NOT done in SB!!!)

With a CP3 and iPad my guess would be that it wasn't done in SB. SB was mainly designed for the adagio products which haven't been available for a couple years now.

This is exactly what I was going to say. Although a small addition for the new integrator (providing the OP has the .smw file) this may be a good foot in the door for the integrator to expand on the system later. If its a HT system now Lighting control and HVAC can easily be added once the gateway gets installed, if it hasn't already been programmed to the system.

System Builder was around way before Adagio.

The program could have been done in SB, SIMPL, or S#P.
