I am trying to control motorised blinds with a relay. When I bridge the terminals the blind spoerates as it should. When I press the button on the panel I can see the relay light on the processor fire however the blind does not respond. I have a button press going to a one shot that is sending the relay the command.

Am I missing something?

You have to hold the relay high for it to close. If using a one shot, it seems the relay might not be closing long enough. Try putting in 1 or 2 seconds on the one shot for pulse time and see.

Thanks for your reply and suggestion. I have increased the pulse time on the one shot to 3 seconds. I can see the relay going high for 3 seconds in simpl debugger and the red light on the processor lighting for 3 seconds yet the blind will still not operate from the touch panel. As per my earlier post as soon as I bridge and release across the connector the blind operates.

Is there something else I maybe missing?

So if you short the wires together and then release the blinds work? Are you shorting at the actual relay connection on the processor?

Maybe 3 seconds is too long, try .5s

Yes, correct, if I short the wires together the blinds work. I am shorting with the terminal block out of the processor.

I have tried .5s and still no joy.

Any other ideas?

Take a multimeter set it to continuity put it on the Relay output.

When you press the button does the multimeter show that the relay is actually closing?

thanks for the replies. it appears that the relays on the processor are permanently closed as i get a continuity tone on every relay port. i have ordered a couple of relay cards, hopefully this will fix the problem

I would suspect that the relays have become "permanaently closed" due to being fused together by a high voltage/current load. Are you driving a low voltage 'trigger' for the blinds, or driving the actual motor load directly?

If the motor load then I would say that this probably exceeds the relay spec for the PRO2 onboard (or carded) relays. You will need to use an external cresnet connected relay set that is desiged to handle that current and voltage.

There are of course non-crestron relay units that can also be pressed into service if you have an aversion to spending the money on a Cresnet based unit, but personally I would stick with a crestron item as, from and implementation point of view, its the path of least resistance.

I think there may be a pun there....
What do you mean you wanted it on the other wall - couldn't you have mentioned this when we prewired?
