We are trying to design an HVAC system for a client and there are many heating zones that would require thermostats. Approximately 30. Our client is very visual and doesn't want to see thermostats all over her house. We toured the Experience Center a couple of months ago and suggested the remote sensors but again, she doesn't want to see these sensors on the walls ( mostly millwork).

Has anyone used an alternative sensor or modified a plate or something so that these can be hidden or more pleasing esthetically? I had to agree with her. They do stand out.

They do stand out when they are on their own but if they are painted or wall papered over they will blend in much better than leaving them white. Even with mill work if the painter is good they can make the sensor blend in well with the mill work
You can't fix stupid

You have no choice if using Crestron tstats. The problem with the hidden ones is reliability. I have a house with over 20 hidden sensors and depending on how deep they were installed in the wall, the temperature readings can vary by many degrees. We also have 4-5 that are bad and these now have to be dug out of the wall, replaced and wall repainted. I'm just glad I didn't have anything to do with their installation!

I got a fun alternative for you ;) Best weekend project!

If you got some basic Simpl+ knowledge you can easily modify this.

One breadboard-module can have up to five sensors if im not mistaken. The breadboard is connected to one RS232.

I made two breadboard-modules with the total of 6 sensors for 15$ thanks to ebay ;)

edit: Here are some information regarding the temp sensor: [Link: datasheets.maximintegrated.com]
