Any thoughts on why a 2008 Sony Bravia tv will not turn on with a discrete code "on" following being off for more then ten minutes? If powered on with the Sony remote (non-discrete code), TV will power on. After which, it will power on and then off with discrete codes. But once it sits for ten minutes, it will only power on with the use of the original remote. Any thoughts welcome. Thanks, D

Sounds like the TV is going to sleep. Have you tried sending the code more than once?

Sony TV Discretes haven't changed in 20 years. (give or take). I know I am still using the same p-on p-off hex that I was using back in 2001.

I would assume repeats might be an issue, as these newer Sony's like to see a 3-peat. Or your TV is bad. What is the exact model?

Thank you for the feedback. This is Sony model KDL-46W4100. This is a 2008/2009 LCD Bravia. We are using three "repeat" discrete on and added some pauses, for good measure.

What is odd, is that the original Sony remote will turn the TV on. But it must be sending a non-discrete code. Somehow, the original remote is "waking" the TV up. Once the TV is on. I can use the discrete codes to turn it on and off. But once it "is in the off position for ten minutes or so," the discrete on will not turn the TV on. ug.

The W series was a big step back for Sony. They almost lost me until they released the XBRs for 2014.

Does it always respond to the OEM, no matter if it is in that ten minutes or not?

Sounds like a TV issue. You could always give a messy On Anchor.

P_On = P-off, pause, power toggle.

Thank you - yes it always responds to the OEM remote. I thought it may be a TV issue as well. But since it responds to OEM, was not certain.

Oddly enough, I don't see any reference to discrete power issues with this model. So, two random thoughts.

1) Are you running the latest firmware? There was an update released in 2009 (2.06r) that's on Sony's site. It doesn't mention this specific issue, but it wouldn't hurt to check.

2) Is HDMI CEC disabled? It technically shouldn't affect this issue, but it does relate to power control, and can sometimes be flaky.

Oh, and I have a Sony 13" TV built in 1986 that responds to modern Power On, Power Off, Tuner, and Video 1 discrete codes. :-)

But do modern Sony TV's react to channel 777? :-)

Hmm. I honestly don't know if that set has a demo mode. It was really advanced for its time, though.
