I am looking to add room temperature sensors to my house and found the most cost effective way of doing this is with remote temperature sensors and a TSTAT. I currently have a 2 zone system and both of those thermostats are being powered by the HVAC, but i would like to add another TSTAT just for the temperature sensors, and not actually controlling the HVAC. I already purchased the hardware, so the question is how to power a TSTAT without using the HVAC.
The manual says to provide 24 Volt and move the jumper to 2/3, but i wasnt sure if anyone has done this already and could set me up with the specs on the power supply they used.
Thank you very much

Not quite understanding. You want to add another Tstat and 2 remote sensors but they won't control HVAC, what's the purpose they will serve?
Why not just put the sensors where the Tsats are now and move the Tstats to the mechanical room?

i just want to be able to display the temperature of two rooms on touch screen. If i see that there is a need, i will probably add another zone to my HVAC unit in the future, but for now i would like to see the temperature of each room and not an average of the two.
I know it is over kill to put a TSTAT and 2 CHV-RTS just to see the temperature of 2 rooms, but i have the hardware so thought i would add it.

I know you already have the hardware but instead of using TSTAT and CHV-RTS why not install C2N-RTHS, These connect to the Cresnet network rather than trying to connect to TSTAT.
On the other hand yes you can power a TSTAT using a 24V transformer (we have used a Phoenix/Omron 24V 5A PS in the past). We also place a 3A fuse after the PS to ensure we don't exceed class 2 wiring specs.

I agree with SWO.
Though another solution could be to just add more CHV-RTS to your existing CHV-TSTATs.
Each TSTAT can take up to 4 sensors, so if the goal is to better regulate the temperature in the house better averaging may be a way to go.

well shoot! the only reason i do not have the c2n-rths is that i did not know about them :) those would really be the much better way to go if i can find them ( im an ebay'r)
Until i do, i will just go with your other suggestion and pick up a 24V wall plug from Fry's and get it to work with your specs.
Thanks guys for the help! Next time i will ask for ideas for parts before i shop.

Yes, but if what he wants to ultimately do is better regulate the house because he has 2 zones it may be better to use 4 sensors per tstat for better averaging.

Thank you everyone. I followed SWO's instructions and have it working now. I am able to report the temperatures from all of the rooms in my house now that I was looking for temperature readings from.
