Does anyone know if the AMS-AIP will convert audio from a HDMI source for the additional zones? The scenario involves a Family, living and kitchen that are all part of one big room where the family room has 5.1 speakers and the other common areas have stereo speakers. Will it be possible to hear a DD source in stereo in the other zones or will they only work if the signal is PCM 2 channel?

Yes, the AMS-AIP can do a stereo downmix of the multichannel audio.
