I usually do a TV on at the beginning and then a TV on at the end of the macro as well. Usually overkill, but just helps me sleep better knowing it is going to turn on every single time.
Why not just use the RS-232 control via the Ex-link on the TV. it is very simple and reliable. If you are out of 2-way RS-232 ports on the processor, just make the IR port 1-way RS-232. I use it all of the time an d works great.
