Apropro a topic on an other forum you frequent you might want to be up front with the client. You could attempt to use multiple gateways for the 6x but if you cannot get wire you cannot get wire. These work both Cresnet and Ethernet so do you have Ethernet at any location? Tell the client that given the engineering challenges it might take multiple trys to get this right--and it might involve more equipment that what you're currently proposing.

Don't be shy about admitting that you don't know and letting him know he is sharing in the engineering risk.

The issue isn't moving to recessed, fixed panels. It's moving to multiple RF panels rather than a single panel.

We've used the 3x as a roaming device in a 2200^ft apartment on the water and it worked. But it's always been a problem keeping the client aware of the zone under control on this sort of panel.

A 6x might work. We've had good luck in difficult RF envoirments and solid walls in NY. But 2-way communication at distance is problematic. A good WAP like Rokus and 8x might be worth trying.

Thanks Alan,

I think what I'll do is spec in 2 gateways for a 6X. One as a fail safe. He does have a home network wired so if needed, I can steal one of the jacks and poe the 2nd gateway. All 4 zones are on one floor so that may do the trick.

I hear you about the multiple zones on one remote. In an earlier post, I mentioned that we had used MLX2's on one job. One remote had 2 rooms ( A master bedroom and sitting room off of the master) The customer is still having problems remembering which room he is in. Funny thing is he's not willing to spend the extra on an additional remote....lol....

The gateway for the 6X does not feature power over ethernet. You must power with Cresnet or local PS.
