Hi everyone,

Be gentle.

Just trying to get some bare bones information on the config required for a set up involving a set of about 8+ HDMI sources (TV set top boxes) that need to be fed into 3 TV screens.

Have looked at a set up where each screen has an icon configured on a Crestron Mobile G iPad app, (i.e Screen 1, Screen 2, Screen 3) and below these icons are the HDMI source devices (i.e Xbox, Sky+ Box, Apple TV etc). You were then able to select which screen you wanted to control, then in turn select which source you wanted displayed on that screen. You could have one source on all three screens or a different source on each screen.

Hardware being used was:

DM-MD 16x16
Crestron CP2E processor
Cisco Wireless router
iPad (with Crestron Mobile G installed - custom configured)

Could someone walk me through this setup and the various things you would have to configure? Am new to Crestron systems and just wanted to work out how the setup works so it could be duplicated at our building.

Thank you for any assistance,

Ted

Ted,

How are you programming the system are you using System Builder or Simpl?

Are the screens in the same area or different rooms?

There really isn't any setup required for the hardware (maybe some DM settings need to be adjusted) but this is all GUI and programming. Once you answer the above two qestions you may get more responses with some help.
You can't fix stupid

All setup will be done in Toolbox based on programming.

Other than that you will need an ethernet cable to the DM-MD16x16 and the CP2E.

But 99.987% of the setup is really done in the programming.

Also depending on how big the web mobility project is, you may want to load it on the ipad.

Hello Ted,

The DM-MD16x16 is the central matrix switcher, that unit would (most likely) be located in a rack with all of the cable boxes and other sources. everything runs into the matrix via HDMI. For the TVs, you would need something like the DM-RMC-XX-XX (room box)at each of the TVs unless your TVs are about 35' or closer (Crestron recommendation ) so you can run HDMI to each; I prefer the room boxes. The whole system then gets controlled by the CP2E but my recommendations is that you upgrade to the CP3 (more and faster processing, memory, etc).
As for the control from the iPad, you can make look and do pretty much whatever you want, one source to all (if the source has enough HDCP keys) or one source on each TV (if the numbers of sources is equal or large than the number of TVs).

Hi Guys,

Thank you for all of the feedback!

More info on the set up:

All of the screens (3 to 4 of them) are in the same room - sitting on top of a central unit (shelves) that store the sources (a selection of cable tv boxes and consoles etc).

So we essentially need an approx 12 hdmi input and 3-4 hdmi output switcher that can direct individual sources to individual screens.

And this would be controlled by an iPad.

So if I am understanding, you are trying to duplicate what you've seen somewhere else, with similar equipment, right?

This type of system needs a dedicated programmer to "setup".  In otherwords, unless you are a programmer with professional experience and access to the software, you won't be able to bring up a system like this with simple "help with setup" on a forum like this.  In saying that, you'll need to hire an integrator and hand it over.

Another answer would be to use a standard matrix switch (does not need to be DM) and a controller (does not need to be a core 3 or anything super as all you are doing is basic control of a matrix and turning TV's on).

If all TV's use a single HDMI input and the cable/sat boxes always stay on the same channel then there isn't a lot to it.

Power on
Matrix control (source to output)
Power off

if you trim back the HW you'll easily save enough to hire a decent programmer for a day or 2 to set it up for you DM isnt cheap!

An 8x4 or similar matrix instead of a 16x16 will save $$$$$$$
