Hi,

I'm new here so forgive me if this isn't in the right category. I realize AMX and Crestron aren't the same thing, but I thought someone here might be able to answer my question anyway. I'm an IT Intern at a medium sized business. My boss has given me a task related to an AMX controller panel in the conference rooms at our office building. He's told me he doesn't even know if it's possible, but it was his idea of a "fun" project for me to try. I literally have no knowledge of this type of programming.

A few years ago we contracted an AMX installation company to install, program, and design 3 touch panel controllers in our conference rooms for A/V related control. Here is a picture of the basic design.

Apparently support from the AMX installation company has been really bad and my boss no longer has interest in dealing with them. So he's asked me to, basically, backwards engineer the software on the panel. The software I've been given to accomplish this task is called "TPDesign4"

So basically my main questions are.

1. Is it even possible for me to do this?
2. If so, can I do it with TPDesign4 alone?

The idea is that you want to redesign the UI?
Do you have the original project files?  Graphics AND logic?
If you do, you can definitely try your hand at it, but without the original project files you can't.

As far as I understand it, yes, we want to redesign the UI. If possible, the programming behind it as well. I don't understand the full capabilities of TPDesign4, yet. So I'm not sure what I can all do to complete this project.

We don't have any of the original files. My boss even offered to purchase all of them from the AMX installation company but they refused point blank. Very frustrating. Thanks for your reply. I'm going to keep trying until I'm 100% sure it's impossible, though.

I talked to someone on another forum. He said there's a way to pull the files off the panel. Anyone know anything about that?

Don't know about AMX but you can't with Crestron. If you can't get the originals from the contractor you're starting from scratch. If it's possible I wouldn't see a reason for them NOT giving you the files if you could just download them yourself. Good luck!

What are the model #'s of the panels and the processor?

That's a good point. Maybe they just didn't think we'd be able to figure it out. This type of programming does seem extremely difficult. Thanks!

The panel is a NXT-CV7. I don't know the model # of the processor. How can I find out?

The only way you would be able to extract a file is if they stored it in a file on the processor. You will also need Netlinx Studio to login to the processor. Most people only put the compiled code into the processor. If you don't have the original TP files and source code you will have to start from scratch. I would highly recommend finding an AMX dealer in your area. AMX is very hard to program.

I agree with you whole heatedly. However, my boss is convinced this is within my capability.

Looks like you have an easy 1 room system with a few source devices and using a projector as the display device.  Do you know WHERE the processor is and just can't figure out what the model # is?  lites4u is right, programming can be very complicated, even for a small one room system such as this...  Redesigning the graphics is one thing, but reprogramming the system is entirely different.

I realize that I will most likely have to reprogram the thing from scratch. My boss seems to think it's within my capability. I took pictures of two things that might be the processor.

Is it either of these?

No. These are not a processor. These are for the touch panel.

I didn't think so. It didn't look right to me. Where would the processor be located at?

Usually find it in the equipment rack/area. Look for it where the VCR and DVD are located.

It's going to look like something like this, "NI-3100". There processors start with NI. Look for a piece of equipment that takes up two rack spaces with NI before the number. That's your processor. Or, post a pic on here of the rack and we can tell you what your processor is.
