Greetings to all --

I have been considering training for CAIP status, and found that a laptop running Windows XP/Windows 7 is required, in order to download/install the following software:

•Crestron Database
•Crestron Device Database
•Crestron Engraver
•Crestron Toolbox
•SIMPL™ Windows®
•SIMPL™ Windows® Library Update
•SIMPL+ Cross Compiler
•SystemBuilder
•SystemBuilder Templates
•Viewport
•VT Pro-e
•VT Pro-e Themes

I have a MacPro laptop, and was wondering if anyone has installed the above mentioned software above into a Windows environment on a Mac using Parallels or Boot Camp. If you did, I'd really like to know if the Windows-on-Mac environment worked.

Thanks --

Using a MacBook Pro with VMWare Fusion, Bootcamp and Windows XP...no problems whatsoever. There were two of us in training with Mac's out of 10-12 with Windows machines...it was funny the only guys having problems were on Windows machines haha. I personally know 3 other Crestron guys using a Mac as their sole programming computer as well.

I use a Macbook Pro (2011) as well. I bootcamp. Even with doubled RAM, Parallels at times would push me to a complete crawl. With bootcamp, I have encountered ZERO issues.

Thanks to all who have replied.

cgav - A few questions for you, if you don't mind.

What was the total amount of RAM you had installed?

What were you attempting to do when it crawled?

Which Windows OS are you running - XP or 7?

Thanks in advance --

4GB upgraded to 8GB.

I was working with system builder, VTpro, and Toolbox all open. Running Windows 7 Pro/Ultimate/whatever the top one is called.

I love having it boot camped. Even if I was told it would be perfect in parallels now, I would still use bootcamp as I enjoy having them both separated.

How do you run both SB and VTPro at the same time?? Everytime I try to do that it forces me to shutdown one of the programs

When you are in sb and then open a panel, you now have both vtpro and sb open.

I thought you meant you were running SB and a different instance of VTPro.

They're not seperate instances, but don't try telling Parallels that. Might as well be trying to run Photoshop, Final Cut, and every other adobe product all at once.
