I just sold my first Prodigy DA system today and it will have PTL4 Touch panels. What are you guys pulling? Cat5 and a crestnet or Cat5 and 18/2 shielded?

We've done it a few ways. I try to pull a Crestnet and Cat6/5. I have had some prewired jobs that I used 2 cat5 (one for data and one for power). I have some where I've just pulled a Cat5 and 18/2.

you will never need a cresnet. i wouldnt tell you to not pull it but i can tell you that crestron is definitely moving to ip connected devices with POE. if anything pull 2 cat cables.

How far have you run cat 5 for power?

someone here posted the combined gauge of 4 conductors each for +/- i actually always pulled crescat cabling to all keypads/TPs. i havnt done this in a while as we have been slower, doing more handhelds in rooms, selling tpmc4sm poe panels. i just sold first prodigy job but, they are not doing any ptl4 until they do massive remodel.

For the prewire's that we've done where no system has been decided and budget is in the top 2 of importance, we just put in 2 cat5/6 (usually Cat6). Haven't had any trouble. I think the PTL4 only takes like 5 watts, very small amount.

It is still nice to have Crestnet there just in case, plus the cat5's mentioned. At least one, preferable 2, and in many cases 3 of them. As I always tell my guys, I will never get mad at them if they pull to many cables. I can stuff the unused ones back in the wall...

Don't try this at home, but FYI I used in a retrofit 1 cat-5 from an olkd russound keypad to run power and cresnet. 3 pairs for power and 1 pair for data. it worked.

But whenever possible, i use the ProdigyXP with Full crestron Touchpanels and they are PoE. Could not be better.
