I have a client who wants to wake his kids up in the morning without actually having to go upstairs. He's asked for an intercom to just yell at them over the system. We have a Prodigy PMC2+ installed in the family room with iPhone apps.
I have two choices install a completely separate system or try to do something with the PAMP4x100.

Is there are cool way to tie an intercom into this system or some other solution. I asked if he would want to play some super loud .mp3 file every morning at the same time to wake them up (where their control would be limited).

Any suggestions?

We have done something similar. You can purchase a board that takes a MP3 on a SD card, it will play the audio file when a pair of contacts close. You could then use a relay out of the PMC2+ as the contact input. Make sure to have the PAMP switched to the correct source and volume.

wake up sound is easy. wake up button on panel. when button pressed switch to correct input, set volume, relay contact closure to trigger mp3.

We have used them a few times. Serial commands will trigger and play specific files on the card.

So what intercom system have you guys been using recently that might be an option if they need two way voice communication? I guess there really is no need to tie the systems together unless its a simple mute over ride or something.

Not sure if it would be the best option, but you could use an Elan COM2. Use its voltage trigger as the signal to switch to the proper input and volume levels, then you can use any phone in the house to page through any speakers you want. Of course this assumes you are not using normal volume controls....if so, you would need to replace them with Elan models with override.

You could also probably program the system to mute when the phone rings or when someone pages through the system....and even add a door station if there is a CAT5 there. ;)
