Last time I set up dynamic dns for off site control of a Prodigy system I had an IT guy help me with it. Every computer guy I speak to says it's a basic procedure so I decided to try it myself today. I've already set up an account with MyCrestron ddns and tech support helped me enter settings on the PMC3.

I just can't wrap my head around what to enter into the SMC port forwarding table. perhaps the reason I couldn't get it to work is because my PMC3 does not have a static address (I can easily fix that). Anyway, the router asks for a port range so I filled the range with 41790 and 41791 it also asks for a private port so I tried 80?? Then I added the PMC3 address in the IP field.

I've been trying these setting while using the router's external IP in Mobile Pro G's IP Address field but nothing works. Works no problem when I use the PMC3's Dhcp address.

Can someone enlighten me on what I'm doing wrong? I'd really like to be able to do this on my own since every good IT guy that I know is too busy to do such a small service call.

You definitely will need a static IP. DHCP servers will try to maintain an address for a device, but it's not guaranteed and should it ever change, your port forwarding will break.

The router might allow you to make a particular DHCP client static, but remember that if the router/modem is ever changed or if its configuration is wiped out, all of that will break. Usually best to configure static devices statically on the device, using IPs out of the normal DHCP pool range (ie. .10-50 is pretty safe).

You should need:

1) incoming ports to forward
2) IP address of the device to forward those ports to

"Private port" should be the same as the public port (or perhaps blank if allowed), otherwise you'll likely be configuring port forwarding, which means what comes in on 41790 is being moved to 80 on your internal network (which I doubt is what your device is looking for).

Finally, I should point out that the router portion of the SMC modem used by Rogers is crap.

Port 41790 and 41791 are for control apps (mobile pro and xpanel) 41794 and 4195 are for tool box and programing uploading. What I do on my routers is the following.

Port forwarding and both tcp and udp 41790-41796,80. This format routs ports 41790 thru 41796 and port 80 to the procesor.

Are you programming in SIMPL? I only ask because from what I understand, the crestron DNS service right now is really only useable if you program in SIMPL as some settings are required.

I use no-ip.com I have 6 or 7 clients all setup there, free service, works great.
