Is there a way to test ir and rs232 commands from the database directly from systembuilder without the need to upload to the processor? I currently create a small program for the device in simplwindows and uploaded to the processor. But I was wondering if there is an easier way of doing it. I forgot to mention that I do not have the ir learner.

Once you have your project loaded you can use simple debugger in toolbox to check all your ir and serial commands in real time. It's a great tool to help find programming issues.

So,, I first upload the program to the processor and then connect to it via toolbox, then with simple debugger I can test the commands? Do I have access to all of the commands in the device module or just the ones that are linked to buttons in my interface? I ask because I have a mitsubishi TV and I downloaded a deal module from yahoo groups but since SB does not create pages with all of the commands for the TV, I do not want to do it manually and then test the commands.

You can test whatever you want that is in the module, I have used debugger to troubleshoot or make sure I was using the correct input for a tv or receiver in real time before finishing a program

You can test IR drivers in the Deal software, if you have a CNXLIR IR learner. Just connect the learner to your PC, open the driver in Deal, highlight the command you want, and click Test. The IR learner has an IR output jack which you can plug an emitter into.

Thanks Tony,
However, I do not have the learner nor plan on buying it. The way described above about system debugger more than suffies my need.
Thanks anyway.

I was working on a system today and found out that everything cabe tested right from system builder realtime mode. I first thought that is was only to track signals but after playing with it, I found out that if you right click on a device and select activate signals, you can then execute commands in real time. Very nice, probably better than debugger!!!

I believe when you are using the Real-time mode in Systembuilder, you can only test the commands that are are assigned. This works fine for cable boxes, but for AVR's there is often a plethera of commands that you would like to test but can't.

With the new OnCue system, i'm wondering if the learner will work in place of the more expensive CNxxxxx (whatever it is).

It was my understanding that the cheaper model will only be a USB learner and that it will not have a blaster to test signals. The new more expensive handheld unit will do both. I just use a old pronto remote to learn ir on and test or with, then convert the codes in deal.

The new model will have a blaster. I used a preproduction piece in a class and it worked great. Can't wait to get mine.
