I was considering getting Apple TV but it will be in a closet so IR remote will not work. I currently use Crestron ML 600. Let me know if this can be done.

Absolutely! Are you using the new model Apple TV or the older white box? For both the answer is yes, just different ways.

ML-600 is RF, just learn the IR code from the Apple TV and create a new page on it.
