Just got a MX-900 and MRF-300. I am able to control all devices via IR. However, I am not able to control anything via RF. This is essential, since the only thing within line of sight is the TV.

I have run the flashers to each component, adjusted the IR output levels and still nothing. Any help would be greatly appeciated.

Did you set up the remote to send an RF signal? It should be the last option under the "Programming" tab.

I did. Obviously, when I changed it to RF, I couldn't control anything at all. With the default of IR/RF, I was able to controls things using IR.

I am just wondering if there is anything else I should be doing. The manual says that the status LED will light when the correct RF address is received. I have never seen the status light . Also, am I correct in assuming that I do not need the RFX-150 if I have all components in a single location about 15 feet away from the TV room?

you need to install the antenna that came with the 300. be sure its connected to rf in.

have you set the rf channel to match on the unit and in the software. the cjannel selector is on the rear of the mrf300 and in the software its under recievers in the section where you select ir, rf, ir/rf. id use rf only for htose devices requiring it.

Thanks for the help...that was issue one. I had the wrong channel. Now that i did this, my DVD and Sat. TV work using RF. The tuner (Marantz SR4500) still only works using IR. I have tried RF only as well, and it still does not work. Any ideas?

In addition to matching IDs, make sure you're not using ID "0", which is for testing only. As oex mentioned, each emitter port must be assigned in the software as well. Placement of the emitter at the component is also key. If everything but the tuner is working via RF, then it's probably a case of assignment (in the software), or the location of the emitter. If you haven't already done so, download the MX-900 programming manual from the "Files" section of this website. It will tell you everything you need to know about the software settings.

Thanks so much for the help I have received in this forum. I gotten a number of things to work. How do I set the volume buttons on the MX-900to be linked to the tuner (TV has no speakers). I tried a macro, vol up and down on the tuner, but it did not work.

Use the punch-through feature under the "Program" section on the MX-900 software. You can punch through the volume and mute to your reciever from the TV or whatever device you are on.

I would like to ask some questions along the same lines as this

I have the same remote and RF base.

All my components are in a glass front cabinet next to the TV.
I have the MRF-300 facing that cabinet about 6 feet away.

I can control all my components but my Tivo is a bit picky.
Meanning...The remote will work fine if even facing backwards but will not work very well if I have it sitting on the couch facing the components, I always have to pick it up to get it to work.

I have read about adjusting the RF base but I'm confused on a few things.

All this talk about ID addressing and such...
Is this only if you use the flashers?

How do you know if you need the flasher or not?
Meaning how do you know it your component is IR or RF?

If I was to use the flasers for all my components, just where do you put the RF base?
Meaning does it still have to face the components or do you put it in the cabinet with the components?

Sorry for all the questions but I'm not sure and this is the place to get the answers.

Thanks,
Debbie

You should change the channel on the MRF-300 no matter what. As Mike stated, the default ID "0" is for testing purposes. Make sure you change the channel in MXEditor as well (to the same channel as the MRF)

How do you know if you need the flasher or not?

Most AV components have IR capability. Refer to the owners manual to be sure though. As long as it is IR, place the flasher over the "eye" where the component normally receives the signal from the original remote. If it's not ovious where the "eye" is, and it's not in the manual, use a flashlight to look for it on the front panel.

If I was to use the flasers for all my components, just
where do you put the RF base?
Meaning does it still have to face the components or do
you put it in the cabinet with the components?

Once you have the emitters in place and the ID's matching, you can put the MRF-300 out of sight.

Hope this helped. If I left anything out, I'm sure Mike will chime in as he's probably forgotten more than the average person will ever learn when it comes to remotes. ;-)

Yes, it helped except the part

****Make sure you change the channel in MXEditor as well (to the same channel as the MRF)****

I saw the 'RF Control' section in the PC software and I'm sure I could figure out about the ID's in there but is there another place I should be changing the ID on the base itself?

And what are the 2 little green blocks on the back of the base used for that have the 3 screwheads on them?

Thanks,
Debbie

Underneath the MRF-300 there is a dial to change the channel. For example, you choose channel 7. You should then change the ID in MX Editor to 7 as well in the 'RF Control' section.

In the 'FILES' section, look under the MRF-300 owners' manual
