I recently starting using an MX-900 and everything has been great, except for one problem. I have a DirecTV R10 and a Phillips HDR 612 Tivo in my living room home theater. I have changed the remote address on each Tivo to a distinct number. I can navigate through the Tivo menus on each discreetly, but the Play, Pause, FF, Rew, etc. commands are controlling both boxes. I learned all of the keys from the original Tivo remotes and have verified several times that the remote addresses are different. Has anyone encountered this issue and have a possible solution?

Make sure that your transport keys (Play, Pause etc.) are not punched through from one Tivo to the other. Also, are both addresses something other than zero?

The DirecTivo is set to address 9 and the HDR612 is at address 5. I did just verify my punch throughs and they are set to the correct devices.

Did you test each of the transport keys while on the info screen? On both devices?

I did. I even removed the punch throughs and learned the transport commands from the remotes. I can do everything else seperately on each Tivo except for the transports. I also checked and the original remotes work as intended. The problem lies with the 900, and I'm stumped.

You wouldn't happened to have a pioneer dvdr? The pioneer dvdr default codeset has the same effect as a tivo remote set to address zero. But using pioneer remote while on the tivo info screen will not change the address to zero, it will stay on whatever it was set to. Giving the impression that the code your remote is using is whatever written on the info screen.

The pioneer transport commands could be punched through to the tivo devices. Remember punch-throughs supersede taught commands, even commands taught after the punch-through was enabled.

I have a pioneer dvd player, but I think I solved the problem. I found in another post that all Tivos that use the "peanut" remote are essentially the same. I just went into the IR database and chose Tivos that operated on the remote addresses that I had set. So far so good. I can pause on the DirecTivo and switch to HDR612 and it no longer pauses. Thanks for your respones to my issue. This forum is great.

Out of curiosity, why did you "learn" all the commands when all the code sets are in the database?

My guess is that you "learned" code set "0" and even though the receivers are now set to separate code set, code "0" is a master control code and will control all code sets.

I would remove the devices from your file and then replace them using the database code set.

That is why I asked if tried the transport keys while in the INFO screen, if they were zero the screen would've changed to zero too. He tried that, it didn't, moved on to some other possible explanation.

When a tivo is on any part of the INFO screen,

Menu> Setttings & Messages> System Info> scroll down to remote address>

it will change to whatever address the remote you're using is set to.

So you can use that to test address of a remote, a key whatever. Before you leave the info screen, make sure its set back to address you wish, and make so sure that's the last remote it sees before leaving the info screen.

The reason I learned the commands was because of the specific remote addresses. I did not realize that all Tivos are fundamentally the same. I programmed the peanut remotes to the address that I wanted to use and then used each one to learn the commands necessary. I wish I had realized earlier that Tivo brands don't really matter - it would have saved me some headaches.

flg8tr98, Feel free to call me if you are still having problems with this. Unfortunately I know your frustration well. I have a client with a reack that has 6 Tivo devices in it. I know way too much about how to fix this. I could wear my fingers down to little nubs typing all the info you need. You can get my # from my website. You can call anytime before or after Cedia if you need help. BTW. there are 2 ways to do what you want.
