I was curious to the changes over the years to this remote.
I know they changed the connector and speakers are now on the handgrips.
More memory too, right?
Did they improve the LCD?
Are current models 433 hz vs. 418? What's the difference?
Narrow band RF?
Better battery life?
Curious to the changes in the lifespan of this remote.
Is it going to be redesigned anytime soon?

Don't have all the answers, but here is what I believe to be true.
According to the information discussed in a URC class, all 3000's manufactured after April 1, 2005 have narrow band antennas. If you have the small USB connector, you have the narrowband antenna.
In the latest URC Price Book, the 3000 is listed as available in 433 (3000i) and 418 models. (Dated Aug. 1 2007)
The difference is the operating band, the real world impact depends on the area of your installation. I have not used the new i-series 433 band URC remotes.
Battery life is really installation dependent, I use a 20sec backlight time for programming and no one has complained about battery life so far. . .
I believe we will see an upgraded 3000 with two way communications in the next 12 months, that's about all I've heard.

jberger's pretty much got it covered. When they did the memory upgrade and connector changes (a couple of years ago), the screen was also improved and had a slight size change. Unless you have one of the first models (like my beta test model), you have all the changes mentioned. Any one you would buy today would have all those changes as well. Mike www.SurfRemoteControl.com

How can I tell when the MX-3000 was manufactured. Under the battery there seems to be a number that looks like this:
MX-3000 N3
083105 030464

I'd like to mention that the one experience I made programming one of these a couple of years ago left me wishing that they had installed about eight ounces of lead weights in the thing. It felt light, like a toy. I once bought a phone for ten bucks at a drug store and it had a heftier feel. But then, it also was made of light plastic and had a slug of lead glued inside it!
