Hi all, has anyone found a good way to create Page Up/Down functionality on an MX-900? Specifically, for a Comcast cable receiver, when you bring up the on-screen channel guide, I'm looking for a way to give the user a way to move page-by-page through the guide in addition to single line stepping using the navigation arrows...

I currently place FAV channels on the pages following the CABLETV macro execution. So I could put Page Up/Down commands in the LCD softbutton area, but since they'd be buried with the FAVs I was hoping there'd be a way to use hard buttons somehow for this.

I have a page on mine that goes in this order with the lcd buttons.

Record
Day+
Day-
Page+
Page-
My DVR

I've found this to be the most used page for navigating the unit.

I did try before using press and holds in Chan+ and Chan- for Page up and down but that got annoying.

Chris, very nice, thanks for the reply. You're right, there are a few other I didn't cover in the question.

For my own home, I use the Channel up/down buttons for page. I change channels using up/down on the direction pad.

Works great for satellite - Not sure if the arrows will change channels on cable boxes. I only use this system if a customer requests it.

Best way I know how, clients seem to love it.
I have grown used to it on mine.

It would make life so much easier if every DVR used the channel up/down buttons to take you up or down a page when navigating things like the channel guide. This is how ReplayTV does it, and it's completely logical. Why have two extra buttons cluttering up the remote when they're entirely unnecessary?

Don't get me started on Scientific Atlanta's issues, such as the annoying A-B-C buttons that perform functions that should have been done using the regular cursor/select controls.

Yeah, the A-B-C buttons are ridiculous. You would think that the person who came up with that idea never used a remote before.

The thing is they never seem to know which system they're going to use. Menu or A-B-C? And half the time they seem to be searching for reasons to mention the letters. I'm looking at the "end of playback" screen right now and of course there's the standard cursor-driven menu where you can select what you're going to do, such as delete it or start over. Along the bottom there's handy reminders "LIVE = live TV" and "C = Recorded List". Uh, C = Recorded List? Why? What's wrong with the big "LIST" button on the remote? And if we're assigning useless functions to the letter buttons, why not "B = Live TV"?

But it's just mostly annoying to me that I always have to confirm schedulings and deletions by pressing "A" - I almost never use the key for anything else, and it's a long way from the menu cursor area in a dark room.

Hmm, now what if I just put a push-and-hold macro on SEL with the "A" command... that might do the trick...

At least that's only 3 buttons on one device - us poor Brits with Sky+ and Panasonic TVs have to find 4 colour buttons that endlessly change context.

Press 'Yellow' in the TV Guide to go forward 24 hrs. Whoops, I was in the planner, and just deleted a programme instead!

The secret is out. You use a URC remote. Either mx900 or mx950.
