I am new here. We are currently upgrading our 36" Toshiba TV to a Sony KDS-55a2020. We also have a Harmon Kardon AVR-630 and Phillips 5-disc changer. I am in the search for a do-all remote. I am curious if the URC MX-900 still has a lot of problems. If so should I drop down the the MX-850? I do want the pc programmability option. Any guidance or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

MX-900 works great! Use it with the newer RF basestation and your good. Or use it with the MCS-400 base and your're great!

When did the MX-900 ever have a lot of problems? I remember a few people that could not get the "arrow pad" to work right but we never had that issue.

There was indeed a period of time last year when the MX-900 was acting very flaky. The problem was caused by a firmware update. Fortunately, URC was very proactive in solving this issue, and they eventually ironed out all the kinks. Here is a link to a thread on the subject:

Jay,

The MX-900 is awesome! In fact, I think it's the best hard button remote on the market. Trust me, you'll love it!

To echo Loraquest ...

Over the years I've owned a Marantz RC200MKII, Pronto Neo, HK/MS Take Control 1000, URC MX-700, three Harmony remotes (880/520/550) and now an MX-900.

Of all of them, the 900 is the best. The only one that actually I like almost as much as the old RC2000 for its ergonomics and industrial look. If only it was PC programmable.

I am loosely considering the 810 when it arrives, but it will be tough to part with the 900 if I do. It is a great remote.

You may wait quite some time if you wait for the MX-980. We won't see a working unit at cedia this year, and likely won't even see a mock unit yet, I'd say it will be a year yet .

According to this article ([Link: remoteshoppe.com]).

"The MX-980 Remote Control will be available in September from authorized Universal
Remote Control dealers at a suggested retail price of $599."

I have no idea where the author got that information. Maybe they were speculating.

Just read the press release from URC itself in Remote Central's August 3rd NEWS on the left side of the page. That's where remoteshoppe.com and remotecentral.com got their quote from - URC's own press release.

I quote:

"The MX-980 Remote Control will be available in September from authorized Universal Remote Control dealers at a suggested retail price of $599. It can be seen with URC’s other outstanding products in Booth 918, Colorado Convention Center, during CEDIA EXPO."
When ignorance is bliss, ‘tis folly to be wise.

I saw the same press release on Aug 3rd. It appears they are stepping up the release a bit.

I'm not so sure - could be September of 2008 :)

This model has been in development for some time, and is being fast-tracked as the MX950 will soon go away...

Just a guess, but I'd expect the 980 will not be a Windows CE based device either.

Anyone heard if URC is moving away from Windows CE in the future?
