Is there significant difference between the two remotes? I just want something simple for the bedroom that my wife can operate easily. Thank you.

The retail is the most apparent difference, however there are a few features in the MX950 that lend themselves nicely to the bedroom.

The MX950 has a rechargeable base with a lithium battery in the remote. Knowing it always has a place to rest when not in use makes it easier to find, and always is charged.

As with all URC's rechargeable unit (including the new MX810), the MX950 has a motion sensor to turn on the backlighting, and a clock.

Beyond that, the MX950 also has a greater capacity for text (11 characters), and both sound and basic graphics capability.

For more advanced programming, the MX950 allows for Variable-Based programming that the MX900 doesn't currently support.

I recently switched to a MX950 when my last set of AAA batteries crapped out and I didn't have any backup. Sometimes you just gotta turn Letterman OFF without getting out of bed.

From the description I read, it sounds like the MX-810's motion sensor only turns on the LCD, and you still have to press a button to turn on the backlight.

However, it wouldn't be the first time I was wrong... :-)

It depends on the user settings but both can be set to turn on.

Nope, just checked my beta and it turns on the LCD and backlighting.
