I use an MX-900 and an MRF-250 to control all of the components in my home theater. The RF base station is mounted to the ceiling where it can see all of my equipment (I just happened to have an electrical outlet conveniently located there). The remote is set to use both IR and RF. This setup has worked flawlessly for well over a year until yesterday when I added a Series3 Tivo to the mix. Now, I seem to have intermittent problems with the macros. Sometimes a command will not register properly and the TV will fail to turn on, or it won't change to the proper input. Does anyone have any ideas about what might be going on or any suggestions on how to fix this issue?
The tivo is probably putting out some rf, you need to see if your RF sensor has the RF light lite up sometimes.
You just need to look at the "rf" light on the unit and pick the unit up and move it around and see if the rf light goes on when you move the sensor closer to your equipment.
Then make sure your sensor is not going off and put it in that place.
Similar issues here and the Series 3 does throw RF. Not sure why but I had some luck by setting the 250 to only send Tivo signals to the Tivo, same with everything else. So I didn't "blast" anything but sent only the signals to the corrent device. Seemed to help.
Then I moved to the MRF 350, and that fixed everything.
You guys were correct. It was indeed RF interfernece being generated by the Tivo. After doing some further research, I also noticed that it only seems to be an issue when the Tivo is connected to my TV via an HDMI cable. It's as though the HDMI cable is acting like some sort of RF antenna. As soon as I unplug the cable, the problem goes away. This is strange, because none of my other HDMI connected devices seem to have this problem. Do you think it would help if I purchased an HDMI cable with ferrite cores at both ends?
