arahman,

Thank you very much for your post. I just received my MX-980 and was not able to get it connected to a new VISTA Home Premium 64 machine.

Your post detailing the steps for Mobile Device Center helped resolve that!

This worked for me as well on 32 bit Vista Home Premium.

One small thing, it only seems to work one USB port at a time, ah the joys of Windows. If you connect the MX-3000 to a different USB port on the PC you need to redo the last step about selecting the proper Microsoft driver again. I was a bit baffled at first when it connected and then it didn't until I realized that Windows Mobile Device Center might treat each USB connection differently, which in this case it does. Thanx again for figuring this out.

Here you people. This is the solution, without doing all the goofy stuff.

Plug remote in

Link to windows device center 6: (VISTA got rid of Activesync so you need to have windows device center 6 installed)

[Link: microsoft.com]

Make sure remote stays AWAKE throughout the duration of the steps

-Then plug in the mx-980 (windows will try to automatically locate the drivers)

-Right click on “Computer” and select “Manage”

-Open Device Manager, select the Mobile Device – URC USB Sync MX

-Right click and select “Update Driver”

-Select Browse my computer for driver…

-In the Wizard, Select “pick from a list of devices”

-In the list, select (Mobile Devices)

-UNCHECK “show compatible hardware”

-Select Microsoft “Microsoft USB Sync”

After these steps it may require you to unplug and plug the unit in a few times.

Just thought everyone should know this works with a post-RC build of Windows 7 for the MX-950 remote. Good news!

I've used this information multiple times over the years to setup my MX-3000 on my ever-changing laptops/pc's. Thanks very much for the info. A new move & job has me in a new Dell Inspiron Laptop and i am, once again, trying to setup my MX-3000 in Vista Ultimate SP2. My problem this time seems to stem from dependencies. Having all sorts of issues with MS .Net Framework. System says MS .Net Framework 1.0 has known compatibility issues. I tried dotnetfx3.exe and the system comes back to say MS .Net Framework 3 is part of the Vista OS and to use "Turn Features on or off" in the control panel. I try that and then the "CompleteControlSuite.exe" still tries to download .Net Framework and errors with 1603: Error installing Microsoft(R) .Net Framework. Searched further on the internet and tried the Windows install cleanup tool to remove .net framework instances and reinstall - that really screwed things up. Don’t remember quite so many issues in doing this before.

Anyone have any suggestions, links or file name specifics for what .net Framework versions are needed to be installed on Vista Ultimate? Appreciate any assistance out there.

Got it done.... Finally!
Had to download and install .net framework 1.1, then patch .net framework 1.1 with with sp1. The applied a .net framework 1.1 sp1 patch needed for vista. Installed controlsuite as administrator without issue. Installed mobile device center 6.1 as instructed in your blog directions - plugged in the remote - updated the driver - ran controlsuite as administrator. Done - controlsuite is now downloading updates to software.

Here are the files/links for .net Framework dependencies for Vista (Ultimate)
MS .Net Framework v1.1 (dotnetfx.exe)
[Link: microsoft.com]

MS .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 (NDP1.1sp1-KB867460-X86.exe)
[Link: microsoft.com]

MS .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 Security Update KB929729 (NDP1.1sp1-KB929729-X86.exe)
[Link: microsoft.com]

Hope the info is helpful to someone else someday.
Cheers!
